Alton, Virginia – TC America presented by Skip Barber Racing School took to the winding hills of Virginia to kick off its third race weekend of the year. With warm morning temperatures and sunny skies allowing for some fast laps, racers gave us a solid first-glimpse at what to expect during Qualifying tomorrow.
In the BMW M2 CS Cup-laden TCX class, NOLA Race 1 winner Colin Garrett claimed the quickest time of the lot for Rooster Hall Racing in his #44 machine, clocking in a 2:00.359, with Stephen Cugliari of Accelerating Performance just 0.419 of a second behind in the #57 car, setting a 2:00.778. The third-fastest time was set by Lucas Catania in the #26 Rigid Speed Bimmer, who was just 0.006 off of Cugliari with a 2:00.784. We’ll be excited to see how these three qualify on Saturday.
TC saw a similar tight pace, with TC America regulars and 2022 podium holders Mat Pombo and Kevin Boehm sitting at the top. Pombo set a 2:05.164 in his #37 LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic Type R, while Boehm claimed a 2:05.319 in his #9 Skip Barber Racing Honda Civic Type R, just 0.155 slower. Finally, not far behind was DRS & Garagistic’s Matthew Ibrahim in the #06 BMW M240iR (*2019 EVO) with a 2:06.736. Could this be a sign that Ibrahim is starting to find his stride and move up classification this weekend?
Finally, the packed and stacked TCA field saw Sonoma and NOLA Race 2 winner Gresham Wagner at the very top, setting a 2:12.117 in his #21 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ. His TechSport teammate and Race 1 NOLA second place finisher Devin Anderson was just 0.265 of a second behind him in the #22 Subaru BRZ with a 2:12.382. Two-time 2022 winner (so far) Carter Fartuch was right off his bumper in the #16 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Si, setting a 2:12.411, just 0.029 of a second slower.
